A new year isn’t just an opportunity to try new hobbies, set personal goals, and revel in the optimism of a fresh start – it also means that it is time to pay your taxes! NHFPL offers free annual tax preparation assistance through partnership with Yale’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).
Wondering if you qualify for our free tax help? The VITA program offers free tax help to people who make $60,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
For the 2024 season, four NHFPL locations will be offering tax services. To find out which location will be most convenient for you, look at the options below!

You’ll want to visit either the Wilson, Mitchell, or Fair Haven branches. For Mitchell and Fair Haven, call 2-1-1 to schedule your appointment. Wilson will be booking appointments one week in advance every Tuesday at 6 pm, starting on Tuesday, January 23rd for appointments on Tuesday, January 30th on a first-come-first-served basis. You’ll want to visit the Ives Main Library. VITA starts on Monday, February 12, 2024. No appointments are accepted, it is first come, first served! Hours for Ives are Monday-Thursday 4-7:30 pm, Friday 11-7:30 pm, and Saturday 11-2:30 pm. For more information, check out our VITA webpage.
