How do I contact the Library?

All Library phone numbers are listed on our Locations & Hours page and at the footer of the website. View our Library Leadership page to contact a member of our administrative team.

How do I get / renew a library card?

You must be a New Haven resident and over the age of 18 in order to sign up for a NHFPL card, but if you are not a New Haven resident and would like to have borrowing privileges for our physical items, we can add your hometown library card to our system. Parents/Guardians may request a card for minors under their care. There are no age restrictions to get a NHFPL card. You can come into any of our locations during business hours to get or renew your card!

Where can I print / scan / fax / use a computer?

Check out our Faxing and Printing page for more information about the location nearest you for these services.

Do you provide notary public services?

We do not provide notary public services at any of our locations at this time.

How do I place an item on hold?

You can call any of our locations and we can place holds for you over the phone. It is also possible to log into your library account and place a hold through the catalog when you find items you would like to request.

How many items can I have out / how many can I place on hold?

Check out the “Borrowing Materials” section of our library cards page for more information regarding loan periods. You can direct any questions to our Circulation Department at (203) 946-8135.

If I returned an item, why is it still showing as checked-out on my account?

Thank you for returning your materials!  It is possible that we have not checked the item you returned back into our system yet.  NHFPL no longer charges late fees for returned NHFPL items, so you will not be charged for these items being late.  If you have any questions, please give our Circulation Department a call at 203-946-8135.

Will you take my donations?

While we are currently not accepting donations of physical items, we do thank you for thinking of us. To donate monetarily, please visit our Donate page.

How do I know if you’re closed / opening late / closing early due to inclement weather?

During possible closures due to holidays and weather, please check our homepage for notifications and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for closure notices.

Is the library going to be closed for any specific holidays?

For a list of all of our holiday closings, please visit our holiday closings page. We also post updates on the homepage and our social media channels for upcoming holidays.
