The New Haven Free Public Library is now registering students for READy for the Grade, our free summer literacy workshop designed to help young readers build confidence and improve reading skills before the new school year begins.

READy for the Grade serves New Haven Public School students entering grades K–3 this fall who are currently reading below grade level. Certified teachers lead small-group and one-on-one instruction focused on strengthening literacy skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Families also participate in weekly family involvement nights that reinforce learning at home.
The 2026 program runs June 29–August 6 at three library locations:

| Fair Haven Branch | Stetson Branch | Wilson Branch |
| Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1–5 pm | Mondays and Thursdays, 10 am–2 pm | Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1–5 pm |
Register online via the links below. Registration forms are also available at participating library locations or download a form and return it to your chosen location.
Last summer, READy for the Grade achieved a 100% success rate at all three participating library locations, helping every enrolled student reach their grade-level reading goals. This year, we are offering that same proven support for even more New Haven families.
Give your child the tools to start the school year stronger, more confident, and READY to read.
READy for the Grade is generously sponsored by the NewAlliance Foundation with additional support from the Scripps Family Fund for Education and the Arts.
