About the Readmobile
The New Haven Free Public Library’s Readmobile is our “library on wheels,” visiting early learning centers, schools, senior centers, and community events. The Readmobile brings NHFPL library cards and services right to your neighborhood, making it easy for families and residents of all ages to connect with the Library close to home.
Whether you’re stopping by for a good read, learning something new, or joining in on a community event, the Readmobile is here to meet you where you are.
Who It Serves
The Readmobile is for everyone, especially people who may not be able to visit one of our five traditional brick and morter locations across the city.
We focus on reaching:
- Families with young children
- Seniors and residents with mobility challenges
- Schools and after-school programs
- Neighborhoods with limited access to library buildings and/or public transit
- New Haven’s multicultural and multilingual communities
How It Works
The Readmobile makes it easy to borrow and return books, movies, and more. Browse our collection of titles for all ages, place holds, and return books or movies from any NHFPL location, right in your own neighborhood! Sign up for a free NHFPL library card or renew your card onboard. Access free Wi-Fi and digital resources, grab the latest newsletters, and explore library resources for all ages.
On special occasions, you can even join story times, learning activities, and seasonal programs at special community events like the New Haven Holiday Tree Lighting on the Green!
Bring your library card, or sign up for one on the spot. Browse the Readmobile’s collection and borrow books just like you would at any NHFPL location. Can’t find something you’re looking for? We can place a hold request for you to pick up at a neraby location of your choice, or submit a Request to Purchase a book we don’t already own or place an Interlibrary Loan Request on your behalf. You can even bring the books you’ve finished reading and return them to the Readmobile. We’ll take care of getting them back to the correct location so you don’t have to!
